Like many of you, I have watched as devastating images of the destruction on the island of Maui have been shared this week. Graceland has a long-standing cherished connection with Hawaii through generations of alumni and friends dating back to the earliest days of the University. This summer, I had the privilege of visiting many of our Hawaii graduates as they welcomed me into their homes, shared their traditions, and we exchanged stories of times on “the Hill.”
Our hearts go out to all those in the affected areas and we sincerely hope the wildfires are soon contained without any further catastrophic impact on lives, homes, and livelihoods.
We know there are national efforts underway to help the Hawaiian community, and Graceland will make continued efforts to support our alumni, parents, and students from the impacted areas as well.
We are keeping in touch with our Hawaii alumni to provide all the support we can to them and their families. I am calling on all members of the Graceland community to offer their prayers of support for Maui and Hawaii.
