While social distancing is the main priority throughout the country, Graceland University students have found ways to stay connected through this global pandemic. While some students have decided to stay connected by staying on campus, other students have found different ways through technology.
Throughout the house system, many houses have decided to stay connected virtually, such as Tiona. Tiona House has decided to have house meetings on Zoom, a group video calling website, to stay connected while we are all away from each other. House President of Tiona, Landon Hampton, says “As sad as it has been not being able to be with each other, having virtual house meetings has been a great way to stay in touch and see each other. The families we have with our house system are a big part of what makes Graceland amazing, so it’s nice to find ways to see that family.”
Other houses have decided to get together to make individual videos to collaborate and put together in order to make it into one big video and show how they are staying together through this crisis. This is happening in Khiyah House, the house I am in. While it is still in process, we are putting together three second videos to turn into one big video on activities done while we have all been stuck in quarantine. It is a fun and simple way to see how we have all been doing, and a way to stay connected while we currently cannot be with each other.
Both of these are little ways to stay connected but make a huge impact when we are all in a time of need. Social distancing around the world might be the top priority at the moment, but Graceland University students have still been able to stay connected with each other and show why Graceland’s community really is one of the strongest campus communities.
