Graceland University Associate Professor of Art Karen Gergely, MFA, presented “Listening. Learning. Making. Cultivating Social Engagement in Rural Communities” at the Teaching Place Conference July 16. The conference was online and sponsored by the Minneapolis College of Art and Design (MCAD).
Presenters discussed how educators, artist and curators frame “place” in their classrooms, practices and programs, as well as the responsibilities and challenges this topic brings. Topics included geographical considerations, issues of privilege and difference, plurality of histories, public engagement, intersection of curating and teaching site-specific practices, and more.
