Kailey Boden ’21 is a part of the Master of Science in Nutrition Program and serves as a graduate assistant at Graceland University. Boden was recently invited to participate in the Decatur County 5-2-1-0 grant meetings in Leon, Iowa.
The 5-2-1-0 Healthy Choices Count grant is a nationally recognized and evidence-based prevention framework to promote the daily recommendations of 5 servings of fruits and vegetables, 2 hours or less of recreational screen time, 1 hour or more of physical activity and 0 sugary drinks- drink more water. The goal of 5-2-1-0 Healthy Choices Count! is to work with parents, teachers, childcare providers, health care providers and business leaders to increase physical activity and healthy eating through policy and environmental change.
Boden currently teaches introduction to performance and contemporary issues in health at Graceland and has been able to offer her expertise to the Leon 5-2-1-0 grant meetings and looks forward to the positive impact they will be able to make. When Boden came across this opportunity she said, “I felt like it aligned with what I wanted to do, and it could give me inspiration on opportunities for Lamoni.” Boden was inspired to get her master’s because she wants to become a physical therapist with an emphasis in nutrition and be able to provide holistic healing methods. The Graceland University Master of Science in Nutrition program was a perfect fit and allows Boden to earn her degree, teach undergraduate courses, and contribute to the greater Leon community.
